Gabe Newell promised that Valve will soon announce new games

Sounds unreal, but makers of hit games such as Half-Life, Portal and Left 4 Dead have not released a new game since DOTA 2 from 2013, not counting the tech demo The Lab for HTC Vive. But last year they announced Artifact, a card game in DOTA universe, which in the words of the president and founder of the company was a step that will open the door to several new games.

At the presentation of Artifact, Gabe Newell made it clear:

"Artifact is the first of several games that we'll launch. So that's pretty good news. Hooray! Valve will again launch games!"

At this point we do not know what games are those, but if nothing changes in the meantime, we can expect at least three VR titles. Yes, three. Earlier rumors referred to the new Left 4 Dead, which is far more likely than Half-Life 3.

Gabe also revealed that Valve's hardware tampering (Steam Controller, Steam Link, HTC Vive) was not useless because they learned a lot from that. A role model was the company Nintendo which simultaneously works on hardware and software, and as Valve now tasted both ends it can no longer be said that they are jealous of Nintendo.

"When Miyamoto is thinking about the new version of Zelda or Mario, he is also thinking about what kind of controller he will have, what kind of graphics he can deliver and similar. He can add new features to his games like motion control because he controls the hardware. And can make hardware turn out good because he simultaneously designs software that will use in the best way. It's something we've been jealous of, and something that we will try to use in the future," Newell said.

In other words, Valve in HTC Vive now has a platform that does not depend on others, which means that their games can be designed exactly to make the best use of this device.

Believe it when I see it.  Not sure they have the talent of chops for game design anymore.
