Alienware 17 r1 (or 17xr5 ranger) 330w PSU

  • 76

Hi,

I am wondering if the 330w power bricks are compatible with my laptop, and will it enable me to provide more power for a GPU upgrade? or is there something on the board or bios which will limit power draw?

Any Alienware adapter will work with any model , you could hook a 330w adapter up to an Alienware 13 if you really wanted to, but it will only draw as much power as the system was designed to pull.

If you want to put an aftermarket card in your R1 and overclock then yes you will probably need a 330w adapter.

If I remember correctly users that had the extreme edition CPU's and were heavily overclocking were running into power shortage problems with the 240w adapter and so they upgraded.

I have a 330w on my 17 r ranger 2013-14. Works fine, it will only draw as much as is needed. Works fine and never had a problem with it.
