Metro games are getting review-bombed on Steam

  • 1098

Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, the 2014 remakes of the original games, both have ‘very positive’ ratings on Steam, sitting at 89% and 90% positive reviews respectively. Their recent reviews, however, are a very different picture – both currently sit at ‘mixed’, with approval ratings of 46% and 43%.

Occasionally when scanning through comments on stories like these, the review bombers will pretend that their negative review doesn’t have anything to do with the controversy that the game is attached to. This time, however, things are a little different – most negative reviews reference Epic Games directly, and there’s even a ASCII image going round of two middle fingers flanking the words “Epic Store.” My personal favourite is a comment praising almost every aspect of the game in question, before admitting that the negative review is “only because of Epic Store bull****.”

Given both the quality and relative age of both of the previous Metro games, it’s unlikely that this new strategy will hit Deep Silver too hard. The outpouring of bad feeling might be greater cause for concern, but given that Steam pre-orders will be honoured and all updates and DLC will be offered through Valve’s platform, I’d say that the Metro team have handled the switch relatively well.

Valve hit back at Deep Silver after Monday’s announcement, branding the decision “unfair to Steam customers.” Personally, I think the decision will prove a net positive for PC gaming in the long run, but it’s fair to say that Epic will likely need to invest in their store’s infrastructure if they want to rely less on major coups like this.

Haters will hate... this is called business.. .Steam had sucked for years and no one had the balls to do anything about it. well guess what a ton of developers and publishers are leaving steam because of their stupid policies. Personally, I have not bought a single game from steam in over 2 years.. i bought tons on gog / uplay / origin and even epic. I do understand the ease to have all your games in one place but steam is overpriced with no support and unless you know exactly what you are looking for, you will never find anything.

Epic is listing exodus game for $10 cheaper because 4A Games will make more money on epic then on steam (may or maynot be true, but a great PR move for 4AG). As a consumer I dont care because i can buy something else for $10.

In any case. Screw Valve and I hope they will learn their lesson.

Their exploration feature and the curator lists have helped me find new indie stuff pretty regularly.
