SSD Brands That Are Reliable

  • 479

Has anyone had experience with the brand Crucial? Cause you can beat the price. Also, would it be wise to place this in my 17 R2?

I don't see why it wouldn't work, if you want to be 100% sure contact dell supp and ask them if it's compatible, I use samsung

Hi JessieMKnott,

Crucial is a reputable brand, they are the retail arm of Micron.  Micron is one of the few companies that actually manufactures memory (both DRAM and the chips used in SSDs).  Most SSD manufacturers by chips from companies like Micron, and re-sell them.  If you purchase direclty from Crucial's website, and use their part selection menus, they guranatee compatbility.  https://www.crucial.com

Good luck!

Crucial is good, but some of their models can cause issues.  The p1 caused my laptop ( 17R4 )to BSOD repeateldy until it was removed , and I found others having the same problem, so maybe stay clear of that model.

I have a 17 R3 and I installed a Samsung 950 Pro, windows install and a Samsung 850 Evo linux install with no problems . Only thing worth mentioning.. In the BIOS change from RAID to AHCI. And use the Samsung drivers when installing windows.

Peace

The OP stated that she has an Alienware 17R2 - our model does not come with a RAID option in BIOS anyway

Jessie,

I have a Crucial in my lappy, and it works great, no temp issues and it's fast loading Win10!  I say go for it.
