Original DOTA Autochess is Finally Ready for Open Signups for its PC Alpha Test this Week

DOTA Autochess might be the original game that spawned the new and hugely popular Autochess genre, but with the launch of DOTA Underlords and Teamfight Tactics, its suddenly become a distant third in the race for Autochess players.

Drodo Studios was the team behind the original DOTA Autochess.  Disagreements with Valve caused a breakup and made Autochess to abandon the art designs associated with DOTA and used for Autochess.  After coming up with their own, they launched on mobile during E3 and tied up with the Epic for the PC version.

Yesterday, Epic announced that an alpha test for that PC version would be launching on the store later this week.  A tweet directs players to the Auto Chess website to sign up and once the test goes live, players will receive an activation code granting them access to the alpha.

Drodo says that this is an “unlimited alpha test,”  and that there's no limit on how many players can sign up. You’ll have access to the game until the Alpha access ends and continues into Beta.

Alpha sign ups will also receive a free cosmetic gift.  So if you're itching to see what the originator of the genre has done to Autochess, this is your chance to get a head start and get in on the Alpha.

In addition to the Epic launch, Drodo Studio will also have a massive partner in bringing the game to market, as Tencent has signed on to co-publish Auto Chess in China which should bring in millions of players if the original DOTA Autochess was any indication.

I tried Underlords, and as a spin-off for the DOTA franchise, looks like it will have a brighter future than Artifact. The original will have to work hard with better mechanics against well-known and appealing characters if they want to stay in the race.
