Alienware 15 r2 BIOS update not functioning correctly

  • 38

ok so i had put using this machine on hold for a while due to life. took it to a shop for a tune up and was told a critical bios update was released in may. they said they updated it for me. no biggie, or so i thought. it keeps telling me it needs to update the bios. i tell it to do so, it tells me its updated correctly. i restart. lather, rinse, repeat. it is now out of warranty as of april last year. am i out of luck? is this a virus thats not letting it update correctly? HELP!

Hello yarrowpyxie,

First step that you should take is to verify if they have really updated the BIOS for you and what version of the BIOS are you having on your system.

Open command prompt on you computer and type following command:

wmic bios get biosversion

Compare the version that you have installed on your system to the latest version released by Dell.

For Alienware 15 R2 systems, latest version is 1.7.0 (indeed released in May 2019).

I agree with Aenea42, you should first try to check the current bios and then try to re-flash the latest bios available.
