ALIENWARE AND KATY PERRY: A “SMILE” WORTHY PARTNERSHIP

Authored by Brant Gonzalez

No doubt, life can sometimes feel surreal, like a video game. That’s the motif of Katy Perry’s official music video for “Smile,” the title track off her fifth studio album release out August 28th on Capitol Records. The global superstar has partnered with Alienware to help bring that imagery to life.

The music video for "Smile" premiered August 14th, featuring a cameo from a few guest stars who may look familiar to the Alienware community: our very own Alienware m17 gaming laptop, 55” OLED monitor and gaming headset.

Alienware isn’t just looking good, but there to open a magical portal, transporting Katy into a videogame world as she plays a game of her own life as an avatar version of herself.

The video moves toward a powerful idea for not just gamers but the entire world: We all win with love. Katy recently told her fans via Instagram that she wrote the song “when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life and had lost my smile… This whole album is my journey toward the light, with stories of resilience, hope, and love.”*

In collaboration with Katy Perry, Alienware is offering gamers the chance to play a short-form version of the video game, featured in the music video, exclusively for six months beginning Aug 28th. Try it out at Alienware.com/Smile

Through our Twitch channel, Alienware will support the album’s August 29-30 launch weekend by hosting livestream events with interviews, game play and special videos from Katy, with an opportunity for viewers to donate to two charity beneficiaries, MusiCares and Extra Life. Other hosted events are planned for National Video Games Day (Sep. 12), World Mental Health Day (Oct. 10) and Thanksgiving, all the way through Valentine’s Day, supporting “Smile” and its theme of self-love.

With a chance to watch the music video, play the game, and contribute to a good cause – Alienware and Katy Perry are giving fans lots of reasons to “Smile.”

Katy Perry, seriously? I'm not sure why Alienware would team up with her. Sure, she (probably still) has a huge fanbase but... I kinda doubt she has lots of gamers as fans. I could be wrong though. Well... I guess some of them must play Fortnite.

Katy Perry huge fanbase thats doesn't relize she doesn't write most of her own song, she either co writes or has someone else do it for her https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_recorded_by_Katy_Perry

Max Martin basiccly writes a good at lest 60%-70% of pop songs for singers to sing, so if anyone listens to any pop song there is a  good chance it's going to be 2 writers before it's actually other writers or the pop singer.

you can get away calling it your own song if you write a line but have someone else write the rest

dr luke is the other main pop song writer as well
