PlayStation, Naughty Dog Building New Dev Team

While details are being pieced together by internet watchers, the writing is on the wall. PlayStation is looking to gather a new team to collaborate with Naughty Dog (Uncharted, The Last of Us) and PlayStation Studios Visual Arts (internal support studio) to make a new AAA project. The news and speculations are sourced from recent job postings and comments from PlayStation recruiters/higher-ups across the months.

Multiple sources have speculated that the new AAA project is another Uncharted game. The last Uncharted series installment, The Lost Legacy DLC, was released in 2017. The last full game in the series, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, wrapped up protagonist Nathan Drake's storyline. That said, contextual comments add to a picture of a new Uncharted game being the next major PlayStation project. Naughty Dog's Creative Director Shaun Escayg has made recent comments on wanting to see more of the world of Uncharted, and a recent PlayStation recruiter hire stated they were "building future teams for not only new titles but for the legacy of Uncharted.”

With the recent Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves port to PC, this could be some interesting timing for PlayStation to announce that they're rekindling the series. That said, the idea of Uncharted being the mystery AAA project is still Internet speculation.

My guess, if there is to be another Uncharted game, goes to two possibilities:

  • We'll get a story following an older Cassie Drake, daughter to Nathan Drake and Elena Fischer.
  • We'll get a prequel legacy story involving Sully.

My hope is they expand to the future and follow Cassie's storyline. This would give Naughty Dog the ability to make yet another Uncharted series-- though that begs the question of whether another Uncharted series is warranted or wanted to begin with.

Do you think PlayStation is making another Uncharted game? Would you want to see more of the world of Uncharted?
