The instructions for Smite giveaway keys are out of date
The current method is
1 - Launch client on platform you use (this includes consoles)
2 - From main menu, go to Store
3 - From Store top menu, go to Other
4 - From drop down menu, choose Account
5 - Choose Promotional Code
6 - Enter code in box on right side
