Introducing The New AW2725QF Dual-Resolution Monitor
Alienware is excited to announce the new AW2725QF Dual-Resolution Monitor. With Alienware’s first 4K Dual-Resolution Gaming Monitor, now gamers can have two 27” gaming monitors in one: One with the superb detail of a native 4K panel @ 180Hz optimized for visually-intensive games; another with blazing-fast speed of a native FHD panel @ 360Hz for fast, action-heavy competitive games.
But what is dual-resolution technology and how does it work? Let's dive into that below.
What is dual-resolution technology?
In its simplest explanation, a dual-resolution monitor panel allows users to change resolutions and refresh rate based on use case. This means that you can prioritize either resolution, for maximizing the immersive details in a game, or framerates, for fast paced high twitch gameplay.
How does dual-resolution work?
In order to support both 4K @ 180Hz and 1080p (FHD) @ 360Hz natively, the monitor panel has to manage how pixels are powered. While in 4K mode, power is prioritized to each individual pixel, which requires more power due to the incredible number of pixels the panel is pushing.
While in FHD mode, the panel directs power to a quadrant of pixels, which allows more power to be used to drive the refresh rate significantly faster.
By utilizing these quadrants of pixels, the panel itself is able to maintain two native resolutions for your monitor, without needing to utilize software scaling and down sampling wasting resources on your system.
How do I switch modes?
Switching the modes is easy! There are 3 methods to do so:
- Select the shortcut in the Menu Launcher on the OSD
- Press and hold the joystick for 2 seconds on your monitor
- Select "Dual Resolution" in the Main Menu of the OSD
